June 25, 1864

George Melott says he came out with the 126th Penna. Vols-a 9 months regt-was sent home to McConnelsburg Pa. From Antietam MD, in September, with sick furlough for two weeks, did not get better & was taken with rheumatism & when he got over that the time of his regiment had expired, he wrote to his colonel of the circumstances in which he was placed but never rec'd a reply-was arrested the 3d of February 64 at Canton, Ohio & sent to Cincinatti and thence via Harrisburg to this place.

I approve that the above is true and that I have the rheumatism so bad that it is impossible for me to write my name.
