Summary:
Thomas Barnhart, George W. Brewer, and H. S. Stoner had appealed to the Grand Lodge for aid
in recovering from the Confederate burning of Chambersburg. In this letter, William H. Adams,
the Grand Secretary, informs subordinate lodges of the intention of the Grand Lodge of
Pennsylvania to contribute $2,000 to relieve the suffering of members of the George Washington
Lodge.

Quarterly Grand Communication.
A communication was received from George Washington Lodge, No. 143, located at Chambersburg, through a committee consisting of brothers Thos. Barnhart, George W. Brewer, and H. S. Stoner, appealing to the Grand Lodge for relief for the suffering brethren of said Lodge, made destitute by the terrible conflagration consequent upon the recent rebel raid at that place.
A full statement of the facts, and earnest appeal on behalf of the suffering brethren, having been made by brother Brewer, one of the committee, brother Lamberton, Deputy Grand Master of the District, and also by a number of the members of the Grand Lodge, it was unanimously Resolved, That this Grand Lodge contribute the sum of Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000) in aid of the suffering brethren by the late disastrous conflagration at Chambersburg, such sum to be paid to the committee of George Washington Lodge, No. 143, and that it be recommended to all the subordinate lodges in its jurisdiction to grant such aid as may be in their power.
