Dear Brewer

Your letter with its illuminated accompaniment was handed me this morning by Charley and was welcomed as a [unclear: genuine] Christmas gift. I am very much obliged for the trouble you have had in in securing for me, the long coming claim.

I am glad to learn you are all well + flourishing. Long may you [unclear: wave]. My wife and [unclear: May] here both been quite unwell a considerable portion of the winter but are both better soon + able to be almost as usual.

Remember me to my old company in arms + greet them with a happy new year. We are very [unclear: long] just now as this
