Yours of the 30th ult. is at hand. It is what I felt that I deserved at your hands, and what I expected. I was unwilling to regard you as pursuing a cause of decided hostility to me, without affording you an opportunity of being heard; and I am free to say that the position indicated in your letter is fully satisfactory. Set it therefore [unclear: pass]
I concur with you as to the duty of the next

legislature. I shall go
for a short [unclear: reprieve], for harmonious action-ever keeping in
[unclear: view] the important struggle just approaching, in which
Pennsylvania must be true to herself.
