Dear Sir
I am instructed by the Board of Directors of our Company to urge upon you the appointment of Gen. Simon Cameron to the position of Secretary of the Treasury- believing such a move a matter of vital importance to the financial credit of your administration. In this view not only our Directors but the [unclear: proprietorship] of our Company representing the corporate capital of $250,000 fully concur. Our investments are now largely composed of U.S. and State securities and in case Gen Cameron goes in the Treasury our company will be a bidder for the new loan proposed to be issued. Without financial credit your administration cannot succeed in face of the present embarrassment of the Country, and no man understands better how to sustain that than Gen Cameron. We look upon it entirely in a financial point of view.
