Chambersburg,
Honr. Simon Cameron
Dear Sir
By the request of D O. Gehr Esq I am induced, again, to claim, your friendship and interposition in behalf of his Son, Hastings, who has been recently admitted to practice Law in this place but as he is not an orator, & as it will require much time and study, to become celebrated in his profession, he inclines to a Clerkship at Harrisburg or Washington City.
I will say he is smart, writes a good hand and by a little experience will become a good accountant is moral, Steady, and amiable, and would prove a creditable acquisition in any position he may be called to act. Your attention to him will much oblige Your old friend and Obt. Servant
John Berryhill
