My Dear Wife
i take my pen in hand to inform you that i am Well at present and i hope When these few lines reach you they may find you Well and i hope that you [unclear: inJoys] yourself Well on your visit and i [unclear: lad] three Days in [unclear: gork] before i got off and all the [unclear: firdes] i have got is to hilton head and i Can't tell When i Will get to the regiment and there is no boats going away for some time but i Just got here today and i thought i Would write and let you know that i got out safe and i feel very Well only it is very hot here but i hope that you Will excuse this this bad writing for i have nothing to write on but i Just hold the paper in my hand and move it as i write but i Wanted to write so bad that i just wrote as i Could i thought i Would write but i shall write a fool letter in a few Days When i get home and Can set down and write i so hope that you Will give my love to all the inquiring friends and my best love to yourself a my Dear when i feel so bad Why i Just look at Dear little face a how happy i feel but a how sorry i Was When i had to part With you but if i had a known that it Would go so hard With me for to leave you Why i Would not a Come home till i Could a Come to stay but the time Will soon run around but if i live to get home again Why all the people in the state Won't get me a to go again but i hope that you Will write some lovely letters to me so i Can set down a read them With the greatest of pleasure a my Dear how sorry i feel that i Can't set down and write a full letter nothing more at present but still remain
