Dear Wife
i take this present time to set down to inform you that i and Well at this present time and i hope When these few lines reach you [unclear: that] may find you enjoying the greatest of pleasure i am happy to say that my health is very good so far all that troubles me is my head it pains me When it so very hot but other Ways i am getting along very Well and i Can get my Discharge in a short time but the Captain say that they Won't pay us thirteen Dollars a month and he say that they Will disband the 54th and 55th and send them home and then try and [unclear: intes] us [unclear: meney] as he Can for 7 Dollars a month but i think that about the one half Will enlist again but i Won't be fit to enlist again but i think if nothing happen Why We all Will be home in a short tim and if not all Why Will be home as soon as i get my money and i Can't tell the time but When We leave the island i Will write to you again but you Can write When you please the letters Will follow the regiment but i hope and trust that it Won't be long till We Can see each other again face to face and We need not to set down and write so much but i Would to have your likeness if you Can get it taken Why i hope that you Will send it to me as soon as you Can for Wesley Krunkleton say that you are so big and fat that he Did not know you When he first saw you but i sent my likeness in the last mail and i hope that you Will get it but it is not very Well [unclear: taking] but i ain't near as fat as i Was but i thought that i Would send it for i Could not tell When i Would have a dollar again but as soon as i Can get a Dollar again Why i Will get it taking again and i Will send it to you and then you Can give John One of them the lieutenant that i Waited on Why he got his likeness taken and gave it to me and i Will send it home to you to keep for me When i Come nothing more at present but still remain
