My Dear sister
it is with the greatest of pleasure that i take this opportunity to inform you that we a all well at present and i hope these few lines may find you all enjoying the same state of health give my love and best respects to father and to [unclear: liebreth] and to all the rest of the enquiring friends i heard that they was making a railroad from greencastle to mercersburg i wish you would let me know whether it is so or not John Chambers was killed for sure and John henry Carl was killed in the same battle bill was wounded [unclear: tricest] and he Could [unclear: gut] away it he would Come away when he first got wounded the surgeon told him to go to the rear but he stayed till he got shot the second time i dont think we will be in anymore battles soon we have move back to morris island again Joe is got so big and fat that you would hardly know him he was out last night him and the little drummers boys killing rats and he is on guard today i am out on picket today it is very warm down south now the [unclear: due barrys] is ripe and [unclear: gon] we have not got any pay yet stand Johnson was killed since we moved back to morris island with a piece of shell one night on picket it broke his leg in two places i was standing Close by him when it struck him the rebels threw a great many shells that night but they did not hurt any one else i have been informed that the reverend mr robson has become your Closest neighbors i think we will be home be [unclear: trin] this and fall please write soon and and let me now how [unclear: time] is i would have answered your letter sooner but we did not get any mail for three weeks
now i must bring my letter to a Close nothing more at present
