My Dear sister

i take my pen in hand to inform you that We are All Well at present and I hope these few lines may find you all Well When i got your letter i Was on Board of the steam boat Coming from savannah to georgetown and When i got there i set myself down to Answer it and the next thing i heard Was fall in Company J in [unclear: lite] marching orders and the next thing i heard Was forward March and away We went to hunt the Johneys and We found them too and killed a great many of them We fought for six days

We didn't lose very many We took all old mare meat and every thing he had to eat And burnt down there houses We Went about one hundred And fifty miles above georgetown and We heard that peace Was declared and then We Came back to georgetown again think that We Will be home in two months We are getting along very Well We had quite a nice time on the road We Didn't lost any out of our Company give my love to all the rest and all the rest of the boys sends their love to you all David is Well and george We Captured About two hundred Cars and twenty three locomotives and burnt them up and We brought four thousand slaves With us to georgetown [unclear: O J T] Was one of the greatest sights that i ever seen We started on the 4th of April and got back on the 26 and We march every Day this is all i have to tell you this time so i think i must Come to a Close this time nothing more at present but still remain
