Dear sister

i take my pen in hand to inform to you that i well at present and all the reste of us but Jacob he is wonded in the arm We wer on sant James island on the 16 of July the revel [unclear: advds] on our tickets [unclear: Cefrdlight] we all arose and formed a lin the artilery opend fier on them and drov them bak we left the island that night and on the 18 of July we landed on mres island and We made a charge on Port Wagner We lost agrate meny men the revls Was tow harde for us Jacob Christey was wonded and [unclear: tomed] [unclear: Curtches] [unclear: hes watchen sirers cruelten] was kild and all the rest of them was wonded Daved Deames was wonded tomes stoner robert lines is ammonks the missin i harisson gorge Demes gorge Cavosek was not hurt we are about five miles from Charlston our men are lving on the island i donte know how so they will make an attack on them it is very hot where we are we have be over [unclear: agrate] and saw [unclear: agrate] deel of the contrey i have saw more then i ever expected to see be for i left home i have gut thrue this tim i was struck on the best plate with a ball and that was all that save me it was throw gods will that the ball struck the plate if i live to git home i will fetch the plate home with me if i can i thought that the people had all left pennsevany i [unclear: ever] not her enney thing from enney won wood like to hire from John i got aletter from James o carson the 2 of augst i sente the mony to him to gow to my father and when he rote he rote that he had the five dolers that i sente and he wood give it to as soon as he gut an oppercunity to give it to him he wood give it to him tell him to pay Clark 62 1/2 ct and then he can keep the reste in the place wir we are now it is hard to paper envelops and stamps i hird that the Cuord folks wir going to [illeg.] my words com true juste as i sade before ilefte that the rebels wood comin and take all the Coulerd poples that they cod get and take them this is all i hav at present we are at morisis island now but i dont know how long wi my be ther pleas rite soon and let me kno how the times is
